Alice: an outstanding success

The Abbey School | News header image

This year’s whole school Drama production was ‘Alice’, starring a wide range of students from UIII to UVI. From the antics of the Knave of Hearts to the chaos of the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, Alice’s endearing innocence and curiosity guided us down the rabbit hole, through Wonderland, the Looking Glass and back into the Richards Hall.

Using an ingenious variety of flats and props, made by the Maintenance team and the Art Department, the Richards Hall was transformed into a magical space taking the audience on a journey around the familiar places from the childhood story.

The Directors’ aim was to involve as many different students in as many different roles as possible, and the audiences were enchanted, intrigued and entertained by the talented and creative cast. The atmospheric music was written and performed by the Music department, the show opened with a tour de force of Ballet dancers from mixed year groups and Technical Effects, Costume, Makeup and Backstage were all run by teams of students.

Another team of girls, keen to try out photography, writing blogs and interviewing their fellow students, assisted with the marketing and publicity, and the catering department entered into the spirit of the production with interval refreshments continuing the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party theme. All in all it was a whole school production of the broadest and very best sort.
