D of E Practice Expeditions 2012

Gold Practice Expedition 2012
The Gold Practice Expedition took place from 12th – 15th April. The walkers enjoyed adventures in Snowdonia and the canoeists challenged themselves on the River Thames. This was the expedition where the Gold girls realise that things are slightly more challenging than at Silver. Snowdonia was at its best – beautiful and slightly intimidating! All the ‘walking’ girls managed to summit on Snowdon which was a tremendous effort – we had clear stunning views on the way up and snow in our faces on the way down! All sorts of weather was thrown at us and the girls came through smiling! It may have been cold at night and tiring – but they were all up to the challenge and are more than ready for Assessment now. The canoeists also battled against some cold windy weather and were also more than equal to the challenge of living out of a boat for 4 days!
Well done to all girls who completed their Gold Practice – this was a real adventure and you should be proud of your achievements!

Silver Practice Expedition 2012
The Silver Practice Expedition took place in the New Forest from the 30th March – 1st April. This was the first time the UV girls had put all their training in to practice and actually walked in their groups without Teachers accompanying them. Most girls will now understand the value of accurate navigation and appropriate clothing! The weather was fantastic, which was lucky as a number of girls forgot their waterproof trousers! The nights were very cold which helped everyone understand the importance of decent sleeping kit and huddling up! It was great to see everyone enjoying themselves out of their normal way of life and there’s definitely some future award winning chefs (on camp stoves) in the making.
All 92 girls who participated passed their ‘Practice’ and are now ready for their Assessment after GCSEs. Well done to all!
