Millennium Volunteers
The Millennium Volunteers Scheme provides a national framework through which young people can undertake voluntary work in their community and achieve local and national awards to recognise their commitment in time. The Abbey School works closely with the Reading branch to help students to find suitable placements, both within the school community and in the wider community. Many of our students have particularly enjoyed thier work with the charity COGS, which matches able-bodied young people with those of similar age who are disabled. The aim of these friendships is to empower the disabled young person to undertake activities which would be impossible without the help and support provided by their friend. Other students have volunteered to help with activities in our Junior School, or in the Senior School Library or Careers Room.
