Drama as Extra-Curricular Activity

Drama forms an exciting and fun extra curricular activity with a wide range of opportunities available to the girls.

Three school plays are produced:

  • Lower School Play - open to all in the Upper III (Year 6), a play written for children to perform. This entire production is directed by Lower Sixth pupils under the supervision of the Head of Drama.
  • Middle School Play - open to all in Lower and Upper IV (Years 8 & 9), a full scale production of a play written for adults or an adult play adapted for junior productions
  • Senior School Play - open to all in the Lower Sixth Form (Year 12), a large-scale production taken from the traditional canon of Theatre.

House competitions are also arranged:

  • At the end of the Easter Term a house music and drama competition is held where pupils perform reading and music whilst the relevant house captains compere and provide links between the two items. Classical music and traditional literature feature amongst the popular music and boy band impersonations!
  • At the end of the Summer Term a house drama competition is held, organised entirely by the Sixth Form and judged by the Head of Drama. Each house performs a 40 minute play and attempts to use as many members of its house as possible without compromising the performance. Each house is given full use of the drama department and a budget.

The Head of Drama also organises various trips to the theatre for the cultural benefit of the girls.
