On Friday 27 April, girls at The Abbey Junior School welcomed 2012 World Book Day local author, Holly Webb into School. Holly has written more than sixty books for children, including the best-selling ‘Magic Molly’ series. One of these, ‘The Clever Little Kitten’ was especially written for World Book Day this year.

Holly spoke to Years 2 and 3 about the animals she’d owned that had inspired her pet-themed books.  She mentioned Sammy the cat who was quite a bully, and who was the template for the mean cats in her latest book, ‘The Frightened Kitten’.

Year 4 girls were treated to some readings from her books for older girls: ‘Rose’ and ‘Lily’.  Holly then explained how she had started her career as an author. She said that she had originally wanted to be a librarian, “thinking that librarians sat around reading books all day”.  She eventually decided to be a book editor before finally writing her first book ‘Triplets’ eight years ago.

All the girls had an opportunity to buy one of Holly’s books and get them signed by the author.  Mrs Raywood, the Junior School librarian, said: ‘The girls really enjoyed Holly’s talk and asked plenty of questions about the process of writing and on ideas that Holly might have for future books.’
