Procedure for Sixth Form
Visiting the school
Each autumn we hold a Sixth Form open evening which is a wonderful chance for both outside applicants and the current Upper V girls to see what the Sixth Form is really like. The Headmistress gives a scheduled talk along with the Director of Sixth Form, and there is a short presentation made by the Head Girls. Teaching staff are on hand to discuss their respective subjects and answer any questions. Along with this are short talks made by the heads of departments of the new subjects offered at sixth form. These talks further enable the girls to make an informed decision of which subjects to take for A Level or whether to opt for the IB.
Additionally, visitors are invited to schedule private appointments with the Admissions team to view the school individually on a guided tour. These take place throughout the academic year. Please contact the Admissions team via admissions@theabbey.co.uk or 0118 987 2256.
Registration
To have your daughter considered for entry to the school, please complete our registration process and pay the £80 registration fee. To do this please contact our admissions department. It is advisable, though not essential, to have registered by the end of October to be eligible for a place the following September.
Sixth Form Taster Day
We hold regular Taster Days which gives girls who are considering Sixth Form options a good insight into life in The Abbey Sixth Form.
Girls currently in Year 11 from other schools have the unique opportunity to attend Lower Sixth lessons in AS subjects or International Baccalaureate, talk to current Sixth Form students and staff and experience a day in our Sixth Form community including lunch in the Sixth Form dining room. There is no additional fee for attending this taster day.
Scholarship Examination
In November we hold the Sixth Form Scholarship Examination which prospective students and current pupils are invited to take. This comprises of two exams, one in a non-verbal reasoning and the other is in a subject chosen by the individual girl. Further examination opportunities take place throughout the year as required by those not able to sit the exam in November.
Interviews with a member of staff are held throughout the year.
Acceptance
Once you have received an offer of a place at the School, subject to good GCSE results, you are required to send back the Form of Acceptance by March along with a £500 deposit which is held for the duration of your daughter's school career. We will then be in touch about an Induction Course for new Sixth Form students, offering a chance for the girls to meet each other before the start of term. You will also be sent information to help you prepare for your daughter's first day at The Abbey.
Any late applications are considered where vacancies permit.
