Procedure for Early Years (3-5 years)

Reception and Nursery girls usually join in the September but there is flexibility to accept applications during the school year if places are available. Girls are eligible for entry into pre-Nursery the half term after they turn three, however the number of places are limited.

Visiting the School

Each term we hold an Open Morning which provides a relaxed and informal opportunity for you and your daughter to visit The Abbey during a 'typical' working day. There are teachers and current parents to answer your questions in the Early Years Centre and current pupils will act as your guides around the Junior School. The Headmistress gives a scheduled talk to explain our ethos, curriculum and many enrichment activities. The morning provides a valuable insight into the School and will give you a very good appreciation of the lively atmosphere.

Additionally, visitors are invited to schedule private appointments with the Admissions team to view the School individually on a guided tour. These take place throughout the academic year. Please contact Admissions via admissions@theabbey.co.uk or 0118 987 2256.

Registration

To have your daughter considered for entry to the School, please complete our registration form and pay the £80 registration fee. This can all be done on-line. It is advisable, though not essential, to have registered by the end of October to be eligible for a place the following September. Once you are registered we will keep you up-dated with news from the school and invite your daughter for assessment at the appropriate time. We advise that you do not alter your current nursery/child care arrangements until your daughter has a confirmed place in the Early Years Centre.

Assessment

The assessment process for the Early Years is very informal and will last approximately 2 hours. It consists of a play session and one-to-one focus activity and the Admissions team will arrange a convenient day/time with you.

Acceptance

Once you receive the offer of a place you will need to send back the Form of Acceptance and a £500 deposit which is held for the duration of your daughter's school career. We will then be in touch with information about familiarisation events for both you and your daughter and information to help you prepare for her first day at The Abbey.
