Olympic Fever Hits Knell house

Reception girls in Knell House were invited by an Early Years parent, Mrs Jolliffe, to create 20 Olympic torches to be used as table decorations for a special pre-Olympic dinner in Liverpool held by Somerston Hotels Limited, official hotel sponsors of the London Olympics 2012.
Each class was tasked with creating seven torches - there were many design components such as drawing community-based sports pictures to stick onto the sides of the torch base boxes, painting each box gold, silver or bronze, sponge printing the main torch and, of course, adding lots of glitter! Finally the girls decorated each large table number with a selection of sparkly jewels. The numbers were hung onto the torches with vintage Union Jack ribbon to make them look like Olympic medals.
On Thursday morning Reception girls presented the torches to Mrs Jolliffe and, in return, each child was given a chocolate gold medal donated by Somerston Hotels as a way of saying 'thank you' for all their hard work. Naturally, the girls were delighted and loved showing off their medals!
Mrs Jolliffe was thrilled with the end result and the project enabled Reception girls to begin learning about the Olympics, Paralympics and the London Torch Relay. Watch this space for a photo of our torches being used at the Somerston Hotels dinner in Liverpool ...
