Psychology Department
Psychology is a popular option at A.S. and A2 level and from September 2008, it will also be offered as a Group 3 subject as part of the I.B. programme.
Psychology involves the systematic study of human behaviour and part of its appeal is the useful applications it provides for an understanding of everyday situations and issues in contemporary society. The classical psychologists were also philosophers, so potential students should be open to new ideas and be prepared to discuss them. Psychology students will acquire a range of transferable skills such as the ability to acquire, analyse, evaluate and present material that will be useful as a basis for a variety of future courses and careers. Each year, several students choose to study Psychology at universities accredited by the British Psychological Society, ( a necessary requirement for those hoping to pursue a psychology based career). Psychology also involves inferential statistical analysis, particularly at undergraduate level, so potential students should not be number phobic, (although there are software packages which will help with this).
