Community Sports Leaders Award - CSLA

This is a nationally recognised qualification from the CCPR, which may also be used to gain evidence for the Key Skills qualifications. Girls learn the skills needed for effective leadership and have the opportunity to put these into practice through running tournaments and competitions for younger girls. In order to gain the award, ten hours of voluntary service, either within school sports or through external sports groups will be undertaken.

The CSLA course is broken down into 8 units:

  1. Organisational skills - Pupils work in groups to plan and arrange sporting activities for internal competitions and inter-school competitions.
  2. Safety in Sport - Pupils gain an appreciation of the importance of checking facilities and the environment and how to deal with injuries.
  3. Know your friends - Pupils develop a knowledge and understanding of the local, regional and national agencies and how they contribute to the provision of sporting activities and facilities.
  4. Fitness for Sport - Basic principles of fitness, fitness testing procedures and the organisation and delivery of fitness sessions.
  5. Organisation of Events and Competitions - Pupils become aware of the organisational requirements of running a successful competition and act as an official.
  6. Improvisation and Adapted Games - Purpose and process of adapting activities and generating rules and regulations of activities.
  7. Games and Activity Experience - Rules and regulations of chosen sport/activity.
  8. 10 Hours Leadership Experience - Where all training gets put into practice and demonstrate leadership in local community.
