AS Level Syllabus
The Social Basis of Sport and Recreation - Cultural background to UK and European society, the development of physical education, social influences on participation, professional sport and recreational sport. Pupils will also carry out case studies on the modern Olympic Games, focusing on race and ethnicity, commercialisation, deviance, politics, gender and the Paralympics.
Enhancing Performance - Acquiring skill, the classification and teaching of movement skills, information processing and the learning of motor control, analysis of performance.
Exercise and Training - Immediate effects of exercise on the body, warming up and coooling down, musculo-skeletal structure and function for sport and exercise - gorss sturcutres, musculo-skeletal locations and action, response and regulation to exercise of the CVR systems, adaptation of the CVR systems, measurement and evaluation of fitness components, planning of fitness and training programmes.
This course is assessed through two written examinations and either a coursework or practical assessment.
