The A.S. specification, (OCR) will consist of two modules, as will the A2 from September 2009. 

A.S. Level:

Examination

Unit 1 : Exploring socialisation, culture and identity  - this unit looks at the formation of culture, the process of socialisation and its role in forming identity, (gender, social class, age, ethnicity and nationality) as well as exploring the research context.

One written paper of one and a half hours, consisting of questions based on pre-released data which is a synopsis of sociological research related to the core themes of socialisation, culture and identity.

Unit 2 : Topics in socialisation, culture and identity – students study one area in depth chosen from family, health, youth and religion.

One written paper of one and a half hours, consisting of two structured essay questions.

A2 Level:

Unit 3 : Power and Control – students study one option in depth, chosen from crime and deviance, education, mass media and power and politics.

One written paper of one and half hours, consisting of two essay questions from the option of their choice.

Unit 4 : Exploring Social Inequality and Difference – students study gender, class, ethnicity and age, as well as the theoretical and research issues raised by these topics.

One written paper of two hours, consisting of two compulsory questions and then one essay question from a choice of three.
