Clubs and Activities
Latte Club
This is a twice termly discussion group for the lower and upper sixth. It is held in the Library at lunch time and involves coffee and cakes, hence its name. It is supported by staff who try to bring different perspectives into discussions. Everyone tries to bring a piece of literature or a written contribution from a book or the media and we have contributions from the visual world. The topics under discussion are large and we try to bring in multi-disciplinary approaches from art, English, econom
ics, sociology, psychology and the modern languages. We have discussed Women, Globalisation, War and Religion to mention a few.
“Your Future in Europe”
Lower sixth girls can enjoy a trip to Paris every year in January, arranged by the Economics and the French department. It is run by European Study Tours and is usually attended by over 2000 sixth form students from the UK. The students take part in one seminar on either French or Business on the Friday. On the Saturday they participate in a conference at the Palais de Congres, hosted by John Sargent, where there are leading politicians and business people. This is not your usual conference, it is lively and entertaining. Some of the time is devoted to cultural activities including meals out at French restaurants and visits to the sights and shops of Paris. The trip is over the last weekend in January and is well supported.
