Science
The three separate departments are united by the same ethos of presenting the wonders of science in a fun, fascinating, interesting and challenging way. The emphasis in the teaching is on developing practical, thinking, IT and analytical skills, as these are such basic requirements for higher education courses as well as for life. The three different sciences are taught by enthusiastic and committed specialist teachers, from Year 7 onwards. The staff holds a wealth of experience and employs a wide range of teaching skills and styles.
The three departments, linked by a common ethos, work in close co-operation and yet the three disciplines function as separate subjects. These are very popular subjects with a large uptake at AS and A level.
The school has a modern science block consisting of 12 extremely well equipped laboratories and 3 Preparation Rooms. The new science laboratories provide four labs per subject plus a dark room and greenhouse.
Clubs feature strongly and a large variety of extra curricular activities are held within all three departments. These include the Science Club for Upper III, Applied Science and Engineering Day for Upper IV, a Medicine Club and workshops for the Sixth Form. Engineering Challenge Days feature strongly on the annual calendar.
The Science departments also enjoy numerous field trips through the academic year.
