ICT
ICT is a popular subject in the school and is regarded as a subject which is critical to the future success of the pupils. In addition, the use of ICT is encouraged in all subject areas of the curriculum.
Both the Senior School and Junior School share the same network, being joined by a high-speed LESlink. The network uses an RM interface which has been especially designed for use in an educational environment.
The school network contains over 400 Pentium 4 processor PC's linked to 6 servers. Every classroom is networked and all classrooms have a networked computer with data projector. Each PC has a flat screen and most have CD rewriters and some contain DVD writers. The PCs run Microsoft XP and the servers run Microsoft Windows 2003.
Use of the Internet for research is encouraged. A dedicated server connected to Broadband is used for Internet Access and contains a website filtering service.
The Senior School facilities include 3 dedicated classrooms for ICT lessons plus an additional 2 ICT rooms for use by other subject classes.
Laptop computers are also available for use in Science lessons and for Sixth Form Students.
At lunch time, the ICT rooms in the senior school are supervised and available for pupils to use for research, study and computer games.
There are PC's in the library, staff room and sixth form study area so that pupils and staff may both study as well as communicate using the network.
In the Fifth Form pupils may choose between taking ICT GCSE or CLAiT Plus examinations. They may progress onto A level whichever option they choose.
With high emphasis on the importance of Information Technology, the Abbey girls are achieving excellent examination results at GCSE, CLAiT Plus and GCE A Level.
