Greek
The study of Greek commences in Year 10, when the girls have made their option choices for GCSE, and this accelerated course takes the girls up to GCSE in Year 11. Pupils who are proficient and competent in their manipulation of the Latin language are able to settle into Greek quickly and to make rapid progress. This is usually a small group of highly-motivated girls and they study the grammar, vocabulary and literature of Ancient Greece, for example Homer's 'Odyssey' or 'Iliad'. They will also study Greek civilisation, with topics such as 'Sparta' or 'The Olympic Games'. The pupils who opt to study Greek are enthusiastic, committed and keen to succeed. Much emphasis is placed on the enjoyment of the course and the girls' success is evident from their impressive results.
Greek forms part of Classics studies along with Latin.
