Food Technology Department

Within large, bright, airy and well equipped facilities, the girls are introduced to the concept of Food Technology.  Students have every opportunity to be creative through practical work and participate in external competitions and visits. The keenness and dedication of staff ensure as many opportunities as possible are offered to students.

This is shown by strong participation in external competitions and visits. Students enjoy outings to the Good Food Show and supermarket visits for research by A level groups. By keeping up to date with current issues in the subject area we are able to instil enthusiasm amongst the students.  We have excellent GCSE and A Level examination results and successes with the Young Chef competition.

Food Technology in the Sixth Form

The Food Technology course develops an understanding of the principles relevant to industrial food production. They include social, scientific, economic and technological factors. The influence of market forces on consumers, manufacturers, producers and suppliers is investigated and then used to develop a new food product.

This course provides a suitable foundation for the study of Design and Technology in Higher Education leading to careers in the food design and manufacturing industry and teaching.

Some students go on to study food science and dietetics at university whilst others pursue careers in the hospitality and catering professions.

This subject is designed to be a complimentary subject to Biology, Chemistry and Art and Design or a contrasting subject with English, History, Geography, R.S. and Modern Languages.
