English Department
With a 100% take up of Language and Literature at GCSE, English remains a strong subject choice in the Sixth Form and enjoys outstanding academic results.
The English department maintains close links with the Library for specific book events, meeting authors, the Carnegie Shadowing Scheme and national competitions. Strong links are also enjoyed with the Drama department and the girls enjoy regular theatre trips in every year group.

The English department runs a variety of extra curricular activities - creative writing groups, a book club and public speaking competitions. In the academic year 2007-2008 there have been a number of outstanding sucesses by girls - an UV (year 11) team won the UK Final of the English Speaking Competition, one LIV (year 8) pupil won The Times natural story writing competition and another won the Amnesty International poetry competition, South-East Region.
