Ecodesign Competition

The Textiles Design challenge was held for all pupils in UIII – LV during the summer term. The inspiration for the challenge came from the need to REDUCE- REUSE and RECYCLE and the brief was to design either a top or skirt using recycled fabrics and materials. We were not just looking for great manufacture but originality in ideas, inventiveness in use of materials, creativity and imagination. The entries were modeled very professionally in a fashion show given in the Hardcastle Hall during the last week of term and watched by a packed audience. We were extremely pleased with the brilliant ideas that the girls came up with and congratulate them on the hard work and effort that they have put into the challenge.

A Fashion Show was arranged for Tuesday 3rd July at 12.30pm in the Hardcastle Hall to show the entries to the Ecodesign competition. This was very well attended and was a great success. Certificates and prizes were awarded.

D & T Days for LIV

This is an exciting new venture which was planned and organised for the summer term 2008 for LIV (year 8). The girls in LIV experienced a most enjoyable day in Textiles and Food Technology as well as Drama. This exciting initiative was held to celebrate, encourage and develop the girl’s skills and creativity and to provide an opportunity for the girls to get involved in D&T activities. In Textiles Technology each girl created a fleece hat which they also were able to customise and in Food Technology a team of girls produced a batch of snack products enclosed in different pastry cases.

D&T week is a national annual event promoted by the DATA (Design & Technology Association). It aims to celebrate pupils’ achievements in D&T, to provide an opportunity for pupils to get involved in D&T activities, and has taken place nationally.
