The schemes of work inform each stage of the curriculum planning process:
Long term
They enable decisions about which areas of the Early Years Learning Goals will be prioritized throughout the children's time at the Early Years Centre.
Medium term
They help identify the intended learning, for a given period of time, for different groups of children, according to their developmental needs.
Short term
They help staff to identify the specific weekly and daily learning needs of the children, so that appropriate activities and experiences can be selected to provide for these needs.
- They define learning objectives and outline how these can be achieved using a combination of adult focused, adult oriented and child initiated activities.
