Foundation Stage Curriculum
Follow us to find out about 'The Early Years Curriculum'
The curriculum for the girls in the Early Years Centre relates directly to the QCA Guidance for the 'Foundation Stage' of the British National Curriculum. This was developed for children aged from three to five years (i.e. from Nursery to the end of their Reception year).
It provides a secure foundation for later learning and ensures that girls acquire the necessary skills to access the curriculum at Key Stage 1.
It also promotes positive attitudes to learning which create a sound basis for life long learning.
Areas of Learning
The Foundation Stage curriculum is divided into six areas of learning.
Careful planning ensures that all aspects of these areas are covered and that our curriculum is broad and balanced.
Mathematical Development Relates to using ideas about number, quantity, measurement, shape and space. |
Communication, Language & Literacy Covers communication with one another and developing skills in talking, listening, writing and reading. |
Knowledge & Understanding of The World Covers investigating and beginning to understand the things, places and people around them. |
Personal, Social & Emotional Development In which the goals relate to developing confidence and independence while learning to concentrate and to enjoy sharing as part of a group. |
Creative Development Covers finding ways to communicate by using colour, shape, sound, texture, movement and stories. |
Physical Development Relates to improving control and coordination of their bodies while learning to move and handle equipment. |
Specialist teachers are introduced through I.C.T., Music and Physical Education
