International Baccalaureate (IB)
The school will be introducing the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma programme for its Sixth Form pupils, to run in parallel with A Levels from September 2008.
It has now been authorised as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy – a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that The Abbey School believes is important for its students. The IB Diploma is a well established qualification that is recognised and respected throughout the world. It is accepted as an alternative qualification for entrance to all UK and world Universities.
Those who wish to specialise in a particular subject area may well choose to stay with A Levels, but there will be others who would like to keep a broader range of subjects through the Sixth Form and the IB Diploma will appeal to them.
