Year 14 Tea

Last summer’s leavers – now known as ‘Year 14’, thanks to Mrs Dent! - came back for tea the day before term began! This was their initiative, led by Katherine (ex Head Girl) and coordinated via Facebook. Well over half the year group and their former teachers enjoyed cakes and reminiscences in the Sixth Form centre – making bee-lines for their ‘old’ favourite corners. It was a fantastically happy occasion and we were thrilled that so many of them wanted to come back to see us so soon – mention was made of having reunions at least twice a year!

Miss Talbot said that the girls all seemed to have grown 3 inches in the last six months! They were full of stories about their first year at university (those taking a gap year being spread around the world at the moment) and many of them mentioned how well The Abbey had prepared them for this next stage in their lives. Conversations hinged around moving out of halls and finding houses and house-mates for the second year, how quickly the year had flown by and the various activities such as musicals in which they’d taken part. One of them initially gave the impression of doing nothing other than work for exams, and we were relieved to hear that she does find time to enjoy everything else as well.

Let’s hope that the ‘Year 14 Tea party’ becomes an annual event!
