Sixth Form Taster Days
Due to popular demand and in response to a number of requests from prospective parents of girls in Year 11 looking ahead to their Sixth Form options, The Abbey School now holds regular Taster Days.
Girls currently in Year 11 from other schools have the unique opportunity to attend Lower Sixth lessons in AS subjects, talk to current Sixth Form students and staff and experience a day in our Sixth Form community. There is no fee for attending this taster day.
During the two years of Sixth Form at The Abbey School students can study from a wide range of subjects. Unique timetabling ensures that almost all subject choice combinations are catered for across the 27 A Level subjects to choose from. Girls thrive in this exciting and stimulating environment. They acquire valuable new skills and are encouraged to develop greater independence in their learning and nearly all of them go on to university.
The obvious difference between a Sixth Form College and a school Sixth Form is that the school also has a body of younger pupils. Their presence allows Sixth Formers to take responsibilites such as the role of Head Girl, House Captain, Prefect and Captaincy of various sporting and other activities.
Abbey Sixth Form students do not wear uniform but are requested to dress smartly and appropriately for their working environment. On special occasions, the Sixth Form girls wear black tailored trousers or skirt with a plain white blouse. Extra-curricular activities include Debating, Politics Club, Young Enterprise, Millennium Volunteers, and the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme.
Excellent A Level examination results (100% pass year on year) ensure that Abbey girls gain entry to the very best Higher Education establishments, including Oxford and Cambridge.
