Admissions Procedure

Open Days

Each year a sequence of advertised open days is held, usually in the early part of the Autumn Term (September, October). During this time the school is opened to the public, offering extensive displays and presentations. This provides a relaxed and informal opportunity for you and your daughter to see the school, with current pupils acting as guides. Teaching staff are on hand to discuss their respective subjects and answer any questions. The Headmistress and other members of staff meet and chat with visitors as well as giving scheduled talks.

There are also a number of additional advertised open mornings or afternoons for the Junior School and Early Years Centre, usually towards the end of the Spring Term (March, April) where visitors may visit the school during lessons. This provides a valuable insight into the school day with pupils in action in regular classes.

Additionally, visitors are invited to schedule private appointments with the Registrar to view the school individually on a guided tour. These take place throughout the academic year.

Entrance Examinations/Assessments and Interviews

Entrance tests/examinations and assessments are held annually, usually in January, with interviews either preceding or following the tests.

Offers Of Places

Once the test results are known, the results and subsequent offers of places are posted out. An offer of a place at The Abbey School must be accepted in writing by March, together with a £500 deposit. This money will be held for the duration of your daughter's school career.

Once your daughter's place is accepted, you and your daughter will be invited to a welcome afternoon, usually in June, and further information is sent out in preparation for her first day of school in September.
