Chess Success

The Abbey demonstrated its strength in chess throughout the school as six girls topped their age categories at the UK Chess Challenge Berkshire Megafinal  on Monday 7 May. In total 11 Abbey girls  made it through to the Gigafinal at the Rivermead Centre in July.

The girls put in strong and concentrated performances throughout, with Junior School girls Kateryna Heslington, Aylin Gurleyen and Saorla Chadwick winning the U7, U8 and U9 groups. In the Senior School classes Katie Rennie won U13 girls, Louise Head won U14 girls and Harriet Haslehurst topped the U18 category.

The girls will be joined by Eve O’Connell, Shrisha Panda, Shruthi Barathan, Rhea Ukil and Hannah Wiles at the GigaFinal.
