Why choose the IB?
The IB Diploma programme is a rigorous and demanding academic course and for that very reason it has come to be seen as a very good course for preparing a student for university. Furthermore with university admissions teams finding it harder and harder to distinguish between university applicants the IB is proving a very popular choice to show academic ability.
The Diploma programme requires students to retain Mathematics, a language and English. For this reason it suits students who are looking for a broad educational programme and one where there is still the opportunity to specialise through taking 3 subjects at Higher Level as well as 3 subjects at Standard Level.
One of the unique factors about the IB Diploma programme is the recognition of extra-curricular activities. This is achieved through the ‘core’ programme. Students must complete a CAS activity programme which they create themselves. As well as CAS within the ‘core’ students also undertake TOK and the Extended Essay, which allows further academic rigour. In the case of the Extended Essay there is also the opportunity to develop personal interests further within a particular subject area.
Finally, the IB is an internationally recognised programme and as such students will have a qualification which is recognised throughout the world.
