While musical opportunities are varied and plentiful for all members of the school, this is especially true in the Sixth Form, when musicians are encouraged to become involved in running school ensembles for younger girls and often decide to start up their own musical groups.
The Concert Band and Choir are open to everyone who wants to enjoy making music, but more musically ambitious players and singers will find solo and other special performing opportunities coming their way regularly in the Sixth Form. Instrumentalists will have the chance to perform a concerto with the Orchestra, for example, and the hand-picked band for the biennial musical production will invariably include a large proportion of Sixth Formers. The Sixth Form Chamber Choir performs to a very high standard, singing a wide repertoire ranging from barbershop and close harmony to sacred works and have recently sung Evensong at venues such as Guildford Cathedral, St George’s Chapel, Windsor and University College, Oxford.
Sixth Form Music Awards are available for our most outstanding musicians, with regular chamber music on offer as well as coaching from visiting teachers and other leading professionals. Many of our older musicians are members of prestigious musical groups outside school in addition to their keen involvement in school music.
