The Berkshire Association of Clubs for Young People (BACYP) exists to further the development and education of young people through leisure time activities so as to help them grow to full maturity as individuals and members of society. The Abbey School encourages Sixth Formers to volunteer locally through BACYP's vinvolved scheme.
Vinvolved is a national framework through which young people can undertake voluntary work in their community and achieve local and national awards to recognise their commitment in time. The Abbey School works closely with the East Berkshire branch to help students to find suitable placements, both within the school community and in the wider community. Many of our students have particularly enjoyed their work with the charity COG (Children’s Opportunities Group), which matches able-bodied young people with those of similar age who are disabled. The aim of these friendships is to empower the disabled young person to undertake activities which would be impossible without the help and support provided by their friend.
Many students also volunteer within the school community, helping with activities in our Junior School, or in the Senior School Library or Careers Room.
