Girls join the Senior School from either the Junior School or from one of many maintained or independent schools in the area. The Abbey School has for many years enjoyed an impressive reputation for academic excellence, and this remains very important today. With the confidence bestowed by success at GCSE, students are well prepared to meet the challenges of the Sixth Form.
Supporting its academic core, the school has for a long time boasted excellent facilities. Generations of Abbey girls have used the swimming pool, the well-stocked library and the extensive ICT suite, which includes a language lab. Major building initiatives during the past decade have ensured that the facilities on offer continue to be of the very highest standard. Subject areas that have benefited in particular from these developments include the Sciences, Art and the Humanities, which now all boast the most advanced state-of-the-art accommodation.
We pride ourselves on pastoral care, which is especially important during a girl's teenage years. Our pastoral team, which includes form teachers and Heads of Year as well as Sixth Form buddies and the Nurse, ensure that girls can always find a sympathetic ear.
We are passionate about expanding subjects beyond the classroom with a full programme of workshops and trips. All girls are given the opportunity to try new activities and develop existing skills through our outstanding extra-curricular provision.
