On November 9th and November 16th a team of four experts from Google spent all day working with the Upper III (Year 7) girls developing their ICT skills. The days consisted of exciting activities exploring how best to use Google Maps, Google Books, Google Sites and Google Search.
The girls were split into teams bringing an element of competition into the days. These included projects that the girls are working on in History (The First Emperor of China) and Geography (mapping). One particularly exciting part of the day involved girls building a website on a theme such as Fashion, Animals or Travel and embedding various technical elements within their site. This tested their creativity as well as their expertise and collaborative skills.
The girls used online (Cloud) applications from Google which furthered their experience of the innovative and emerging technologies that are of great relevance to their technological futures.
These days are an example of how The Abbey is working closely with leading companies to ensure that the school is at the forefront of ICT in education and that the girls are very comfortable at working with industry-standard software which will equip them for the demands of the world today.
