The impressive, spacious library is well stocked with a wide range of books reflecting the curriculum as well as catering for leisure interests. Other resources include, videos and dvds, cds and cassettes. Periodicals to support most subject areas, national daily newspapers and the cuttings folders may be used in the library. The library is open from 8.15am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday with open access for all students and staff before, during and after the school day for research, resource selection and study.
In order to foster intellectual curiosity in the girls, reading lists have been prepared for most subjects and these are available for pupils and parents to download from the Reading Lists page on the website as well as on the 'Oliver' index system in the library. Reading lists for girls in the Sixth Form can be accessed through Life in the Sixth Form.
The library keeps its resources regularly updated. 16 networked computers are available on the upper level, and a laptop is available for students unable to manage the stairs. This pleasant and spacious environment not only celebrates national events such as Book Week and World Book Day, but is also home to pupils' work in cross-curricular displays. Several clubs meet regularly in the library including the book club for younger girls, senior creative writing and the Sixth Form Latte Club. Book-related events and reader development programmes such as theatre visits, The Readathon and book-award shadowing are all regular occurrences.
The library staff are always on hand to help and respond to individual requests and the Librarian is pleased to arrange author visits, clubs, promotional trips, quizzes and competitions, as well as offer induction sessions to new pupils and information literacy through PSHE. Recent author visits have included popular fiction writers Michelle Paver, Geraldine McCaughrean, Robert Muchamore, Mary Hoffman and travel writer Will Randall.
