The Drama department believes that every girl should have the opportunity to take part in a wide variety of drama activities including public performances of their work. This is only part of the experience - girls benefit tremendously from working as part of a team to create a piece of drama, the discipline of learning dialogue and movement on the set as well as allowing others to be the focus of attention while still playing a role. This is in addition to the obvious enjoyment of engaging in the creative process and gaining confidence in appearing on the public stage.

There are three drama clubs at The Abbey Senior School - the junior, intermediate and senior - which meet each week in the Drama Studio.

Productions

Each drama club prepares one public performance of their work and in future it is envisaged that they will combine for a major performance. During the rehearsal period, there are additional after school and week-end performances which are published on a rehearsal schedule at the beginning of the process. A public production demands a huge commitment for girls and their parents in terms of time (and energy) and girls are asked to ensure that they are available for all rehearsals before they make the commitment and accept a role.
