Art at the Abbey is an exciting and engaging subject. Art is taught in a suite of purpose-built rooms on the top floor of the new Jane Austen Building. Each room is well equipped with excellent facilities and an abundance of natural light. Pupils follow a lively and extensive course aimed at developing a sound understanding of the basic elements of visual art.
Girls learn and develop their skills through a series of exercises and topics building on previous work. Each topic is pupil orientated and focused on Drawing and Painting, Graphic Design/Printmaking or Three dimensional sculpture and ceramics. All project work is supported by contextual reference to the History of Art and contemporary artists. Girls are taught a visual language combined with practical skills so they can externalise their imaginative and creative ideas.
Art is a popular choice for GCSE, A Level and IB candidates.
