A nurturing and supportive ethos is embedded throughout The Abbey School. This is very much in evidence at the transition stage between the junior and senior phases of the school. Most girls move to the senior school at the end of Lower III (Year 6). There are many opportunities for girls to learn about the exciting challenges of life at the senior school beforehand. Junior girls use many facilities there regularly, such as the swimming pool, sports fields and specialist rooms.
Junior girls recognise many familiar faces at the senior school as senior girls visit the Junior School site and lead assemblies. House captains meet the younger girls at social events and several older girls offer their help to assist with lessons, extra curricular activities and Before and After School Care in order to develop their leadership skills. Members of staff at both sites also share their specialist knowledge with different age groups.
The Upper Junior girls are invited to many drama productions and musical concerts throughout the year and thoroughly enjoy the Upper III (Year 7) pantomime at Christmas. The Junior School choir is also invited to take part in senior school concerts, such as the Nine Lessons and Carols.
Taster sessions offer exciting opportunities to use the specialist science laboratories, the state of the art computer rooms and other facilities like the Art and DT rooms.
The Junior School highly values its close relationship with the Senior School. This strong association enables all girls to move on to the senior school with the ability to build on their prior learning with ever growing confidence and enthusiasm, continuing on their lifelong journey in the fulfilment of their potential.
