Welcome

Carol Ryninks- Head of Junior School Play time.

When I show visitors around The Abbey Junior School they see a school buzzing with activity and humming with a lively enthusiasm for learning. The girls are happy, confident and fully at ease with themselves and I have an enormous sense of pride in our school community.

Our pupils experience a broad and enriched curriculum which goes well beyond the boundaries of the National Curriculum. The girls meet a range of new and exciting opportunities, both inside and outside the classroom, creating unforgettable memories for them. They display a strong engagement with their learning. The children are eager to face challenges, experimenting and adapting until they succeed. Our emphasis on pastoral care means they know they are all valued and their self-assurance and enthusiasm about school is refreshing.

The culture of innovation and skills-sharing amongst our staff means the girls receive high-quality teaching, which is carefully geared to their ability and they are encouraged to progress with confidence. Firm, secure foundations are built and initiative and independent thinking are fostered.

Our Assembly Board has a motto: ‘Let’s help each other to be our BEST selves’. Within the secure, nurturing environment that The Abbey strives to establish, each girl is encouraged and motivated to build a strong set of personal values, to develop fully her talents in whatever field and to display a sense of responsibility to those around her, both in school and in the wider world. ‘Educating the whole person’, an ‘all-round education’, call it what you will, is something about which we are passionate. The heart is as important as the mind.

The Abbey finds itself at the forefront of girls’ independent education in its broadest sense – nurturing and developing young hearts and minds, valuing each girl’s contribution and successes and delivering the highest academic standards.

Parents’ input is welcomed and greatly valued. We recognize the importance of a partnership approach and feedback and communication between home and school is encouraged. We want your daughter to be happy, motivated and to succeed. I hope that our website gives you a gateway to The Abbey and look forward to meeting you on a visit where you can experience our special atmosphere.
