On December 1st in the London O2 Arena , Upper II girls shared their voices and gave huge amounts of energy and enthusiasm with over 8000 others as part of one of the largest choirs of young people ever known in the United Kingdom – a record-breaking event. The ‘Young Voices’ concert included performances by singer VV Brown, gospel singer Denniz Ellington and the girl harmony group 'All Angels'. The Abbey girls behaved and sang beautifully smiling throughout; a credit to themselves. Teachers from other schools specifically complimented us that it was a pleasure to hear and see such a delightful choir. Upper II had worked extremely hard learning the words and actions to over 25 songs and after a quick rehearsal in the afternoon were ready to join in the evening fun, dancing and waving torches and wearing their souvenir Young Voices T-shirts and Santa hats.
Almost a hundred Abbey parents, brothers and sisters joined us at the concert, including dancing along to ‘Karma Chameleon’. The verdict was, although we had a late journey home, that the excitement of participating in such a sparkling event was well worth it! The event was hosted by TV presenter Gigi Morley and helped to raise awareness and funds for the CLIC Sargent child cancer charity.
