National Codes and Ciphers Centre

Bletchley Park Visit

To enrich their History studies, Year 6 girls travelled to the National Codes and Ciphers Centre at Bletchley Park.  During World War II, this was the centre of code breaking operations. A team of exceptional mathematicians cracked the famous German 'Enigma' code and were able to shorten the war by several years. As well as learning about code breaking, the girls also had the chance to experience life on the Home Front first-hand and to tour the very comprehensive Churchill collection. They even had the opportunity of sitting in Churchill's chair!

At the end of the visit, they listened to the vivid experiences of Joan, who was evacuated from London during the war. This proved a very worthwhile introduction to Year 6 History studies of Britain during World War II.
