Gamelan Music

Gamelan Workshop Gamelan Workshop

On Monday 22 February Years 3 and 4 took part in a Gamelan workshop.  The lower junior girls were treated to an amazing sight of a full gamelan orchestra as they entered the studio, including five gongs.  During the session the girls learnt about the traditions and history of the gamelan.  By the end of the workshop all of the girls were able to play a simple piece of gamelan music.  For many girls the highlight was being able to hit the largest gong made in the world.

A gamelan is a musical ensemble from Indonesia, typically from the islands of Bali or Java, featuring a variety of instruments such as metallophones, xylophones, drums and gongs; bamboo flutes, bowed and plucked strings.
