The girls from the Abbey Junior School have been running to victory recently. With cross-country running as part of the school curriculum and well attended lunchtime clubs, girls of all ages at The Abbey have been working hard to improve their overall fitness and endurance. A number of girls also train with Reading Athletics Club.
The Under 11 cross-country team have already competed at two meetings this month. Firstly, at the Oratory Preparatory School Meeting where Hannah, leading from the start, won the Under 11 race. Her fellow team members, Florence and Sophie, crossed the finish line closely behind with all three girls winning the Under 11 Girls trophy for the first time.
The following week The Abbey entered four teams from Under 8 through to Under 11 at the Eagle House Cross-Country Meeting alongside many other schools. It was a muddy and challenging course, including the now infamous ‘killer’ hill. The Under 8s team, Under 10s team and the Under 11s team all won the girls team trophy. Emily, Saiorse and Freya in the Under 8s team won 1st, 2nd and 3rd places with Hannah winning the Under 11s race again. Well done to all the girls involved!
