Author Mark Barrett was in school on Thursday 21 January to talk to Year 5 and Year 6 girls about his Victorian-themed novels - ‘Joe Rat’ and ‘The Wild Man’. Mark read the opening pages of ‘Joe Rat’ and asked the girls how they would finish the chapter, before revealing how it actually ended. With the aid of a hoe and a sieve, he went on to illustrate how street-child, Joe, would have sorted through the rubbish he found in the sewers, to find discarded coins and jewellery. Mark showed the girls some Victorian coins and was very impressed with their knowledge of the Victorian period. At the end of the session, Mark signed copies of his books for the girls.
