All pupils study French from LI (Year 3) for one lesson each week and progress from simple spoken French exercises through to reading and writing and more spontaneous French communication.
Basic vocabulary includes numbers to 100, colours, pets, houses, towns, their family, their hobbies and themselves.
Pupils are able to ask and respond to a variety of questions about themselves by UI (Year 4) and written French is introduced in UII (Year 5).
Spelling and grammatical differences are introduced through books, short video clips and ICT resources. The pupils are encouraged to use the target language as much as possible and they enjoy participating in the games and songs used in class.
