General advice on parking

Where do I pick up and drop off at the school, and where do I park?

Parking in the roads around the Junior and Senior school is a challenge, the Council is ever vigilant and with girls moving to and from school you will need to be vigilant yourself, not only to keep an eye out for your daughter, but also other girls and other cars. But we hope the following information will help make your life a bit easily.

Early Years & Junior School

Girls can start at the Abbey Junior School from the age of 3, so please take great care and consideration when dropping off or picking up your daughter, there will be lots of small children around the entrances or very close to the roads.

It is best to park in Glebe Road, Christchurch Gardens, Northumberland Avenue or Warwick Road.  Please try to avoid Vicarage Road as this becomes very difficult to drive down and very dangerous, particularly for parents trying to cross the road with young children.

  • Early Years (Nursery and Reception), collect from Knell House. Collection is at 3.30pm
  • Junior School.  For all years, it is possible to drop off via the Tennis Courts in Cintra Avenue.
    • Prep and Trans (Year 1 and 2) collect from Vicarage Road Entrance.  Collection is at 3.30
    • L1 and U1 (Year 3 and 4) collect from the front right hand entrance of the school.  Parking alternatives include Glebe Road, Christchurch Gardens, Northumberland Avenue, Warwick Road or Cintra Avenue. Collection is at 3.45
    • U11 and L111 (Years 5 and 6) collection is from Somerleaze, using the Vicarage Road Entrance.  Parking alternatives include Glebe Road, Christchurch Gardens, Northumberland Avenue, Warwick Road or Cintra Avenue. Collection is at 3.45

Specific Places not to Park:  Yellow zigzags in front of school (even if it’s to drop off, i.e. NO STOPPING from 8am -5pm) and car parks for the Hillingdon Prince, the Church, the flats on Northumberland Rd

Senior School

Kendrick Road does become very busy in the morning and in the afternoon with school and Reading buses offloading and taking on girls as part of their commute. Also, at the lower end of Kendrick Road, you will see large number of girls crossing the London Road as they travel to/from Reading station.

If you drop off or pick up your daughter opposite the school, please be aware that all girls must use the crossing rather than try to dodge the traffic.

Parking in Kendrick Road is very limited and it is very tempting to park on the yellow lines, but beware the traffic wardens are very vigilant and will pounce on you whilst you wait! Parking in Morgan Road is limited to residents only; again wardens like to visit this road at peak times. However tempting it may be to park at the junction of Morgan and Kendrick Roads please try not to as it makes it more difficult for the girls to cross Morgan Road. There is some parking in Allcroft Road, if you want to walk a little bit further.
