Welcome to The Abbey School Reading Old Girls’ Association (ASROGA), founded in 1903 to enable former pupils to maintain contact with each other and with The Abbey. In the early days most Old Girls lived in, or near Reading, and they were able to attend school events and social activities throughout the year. The availability and popularity of colleges of further education around the country and increased job mobility meant a growing number of Old Girls moved away from the Reading area, and stayed away. Today our members are scattered throughout the world, but at no other time in our history have we been closer – thanks to technology and the encouraging support of School. Our aims have changed little over the years. In 2008 we restated our primary aims as being:
• To provide a link between Old Girls, School and each other, and to sustain interest in The Abbey and ASROGA.
• To hold Reunions at School and elsewhere.
• To help to maintain a list of Old Girls, their contact details and other appropriate details.
• To support the educational and charitable aims of members and Sixth Form School Leavers.
In 2003 the administration of ASROGA was transferred to School. Our small Committee now deals with the Baroness Brigstocke Memorial Public Speaking Competitions and ASROGA Awards. The committee members also help with Reunions and Newsletters. The ASROGA Archive Group is a small group of Old Girls helping to preserve, record and make use of The Abbey School Archive.
