Sports Day

Senior School Sports Day

From the classic sack race to the more innovative ‘Teddy Bears’ Picnic’ and ‘Dressing Up’ obstacle courses, Nursery girls had a fun-filled sports morning in The Abbey Junior quadrangle. Parents were invited to participate in the final event; the parachute run. Reception to Transition girls took part in running, hurdles and tricycle races at their very first competitive Sports Day.

Girls from Lower I to Lower III wore their house coloured shirts and kick started their Sports Day with a house parade and cheer leading routines. The girls put into practice all they had learnt in their athletics lessons in both track and field events from javelin to the 600m long distance race as well as having fun in various obstacle relays.

There were many highlights at The Abbey Senior Sports Day this year. Girls excelled in everything from Javelin to the 1200m but special mention went to April Taylor, Year 10, who smashed the High Jump record by 12cm leaping a massive 1.52m. The previous record of 1.40m was first achieved in 1998, equalled in 2001 and in 2008. All girls lined the 100m track to cheer on their newly appointed captains in the ‘House Captains’ Race’ where the girls finished the race together.
