Go 4 It!

Zimbabwean Band

All the pupils in UIV (Year 9) have been busy over the past few weeks working towards their Go4It! exhibition. Go4It! is a programme designed to encourage the girls to broaden their horizons and fits perfectly with the school’s strategic aim to promote internationalism.

The girls worked in teams with their friends and each group picked the name of a country out of a hat. They then researched the country in great detail taking into account geography, natural life, culture, politics, customs, music and food and then worked as a team to present their findings using multimedia in a presentation and on their display stand.

Parents first watched the individual presentations in the Lecture Theatre and then wandered around the displays sampling traditional foods and drinks and discussing the girls’ findings with them.

On the New Zealand stand the girls had learned the ‘haka’ and had lots of information including an erupting volcano model and video of the recent earthquake. This year there was also one state (not a country!) – Alaska proved very interesting, especially for its wildlife and indigenous population. Morocco had some beautiful traditional costumes and some spiced biscuits, Argentina some tasty empanadas and a profile on football and Egypt showed the transition from ancient civilisation to modern country. The Singapore stand had hand-made lanterns and tasty noodles and Sweden offered apple cake, ABBA and IKEA! There was high fashion in Italy and 'haute cuisine' in France with Zimbabwe and Uganda showing the vibrant colours and sounds of Africa.
