A Year of the IB

IB

Last September The Abbey introduced the International Baccalaureate Diploma as an alternative to A Levels.  In our first year the academic IB curriculum was enriched by various trips from attending the 'My Future in Europe' Conference in Paris to a day at the House of Commons debating international issues.  A successful World Literature Day  featured discussion and review of both modern African and canonical European literature.

As part of their Creativity Action Service programme, the students have built benches and helped clear some woodland for the Ufton Court Educational Trust. They were also vigorous delegates at the Leighton Park Peace Conference where students delivered presentations on the conflicts in Dafur and Rwanda. The girls have also been involved in musical performances, rock climbing expeditions and fundraising - most recently raising money for Cancer Research by running in the Race for Life.

The IB Diploma promotes international-mindedness alongside a positive attitude to learning and all the girls and staff involved this year have embraced the challenge.
