ICT as a strategic focus

The Abbey School offers girls the very best opportunities to use

 Information Communication Technology:

  1. In curriculum subjects to realise full academic potential.
  2. In core academic ICT study to develop immediate and future ICT needs in knowledge, skills and understanding in the use of Industry Standard software to produce a wide range of documents for print, digital, graphic, animation, movie, audio, ebook and eportfolio output.
  3. To develop opportunity for academic and Industry Standard ICT certification across the Key Stages to acknowledge achievement and enable specialist study in further education.
  4. To develop strong partnership with ICT Industry leaders and international agencies enabling The Abbey School to be positioned as a leader in the field of global Information Communication Technology education.

Adobe selected The Abbey as an example of a lead school in education and made this film about our use of their software.

To achieve these aims we:

  1. Maintain a high level of consistent investment (year on year) in excellent ICT infrastructure, hardware and software across the age ranges, from 3 to 19, providing reliable, fast, high quality access to the Internet, Abbey email, 400 networked PCs, a wide range of curriculum ICT resources and the very best Industry Standard Software including Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat, Dreamweaver, Flash, Illustrator and Premiere Elements.
  2. Provide essential and innovative ICT courses in the classroom for the teachers and pupils to use to create the very best teaching and learning opportunities using interactive whiteboards and tablets, voting units, laptops, specialist department ICT facilities such as the Modern Foreign Languages laboratory.
  3. Provide many high specification bookable ICT rooms for curricular and core Academic ICT teaching.
  4. Provide excellent ‘out of lesson’ access to ICT for pupils at lunchtime, for ICT clubs and specialist ICT activities such as pupils managed in-house professional magazine, video and other document production.
  5. Offer high quality traditional Academic ICT core teaching in ICT, with excellent results at GCSE in ICT and at A level in ICT and Computing, alongside the development of Industry Standard rich media skills (graphics, animation, movie and audio), web and digital document production.
  6. Offer high quality examination courses at Key Stages 4 and 5 as well as leading girls ICT education in the development of new media Industry standard courses at Key Stages 2 and 3. Our 10 to 14 year olds become confident in the essential future rich skills of the new media web 2.0 technologies that are present now in Business and Industry. Our Abbey girls are true ‘Digital Natives’ employing the best ICT opportunities to achieve their full potential.
